Aoi Art’s Comment: "Shirake" refers to the location of the residence of Yamato Norinaga and is also known as Shikkake, now part of the Kashida-cho Shikkake area in Tenri City, Nara Prefecture. It is named after a large stone, the Shikkake-ishi, where portable shrines rested en route to Kashida Shrine. This work is believed to date to the Bunpo and Ryakuo eras of the Kamakura period and is an excellent piece of high craftsmanship.
