Shape: Slightly long tanto with two grooves on the omote side and a strong single groove on the ura side.
Jigane: Well-forged itame hada with a somewhat subdued appearance.
Hamon: Similar to Kunihiro's style, slightly coarse with a notare and suguha mix, ending in a small round boshi.

Features: Born in Hyuga province, Kunitomo was said to be either the nephew or student of Kunihiro, and lived with him in Kyoto's Horikawa. To improve cutting performance, the nioiguchi is slightly subdued.

Koshirae:
Saya: Black lacquered saya with family crest in gold.
Kojiri, kurigata, fuchikashira: Made from brass with detailed craftsmanship, adorned with Omodaka crest in gold. This crest was used by famous warlords like Toyotomi Hidetsugu, Fukushima Masanori, and Mori Motonari, as well as daimyo families like Doi, Okudaira, Hori, Kinoshita, and Sakai. Notably, the Kinoshita family, descendants of the Toyotomi, adopted the Omotaka crest.
Menuki: Brass with a large wave pattern, matching the koshirae design.

Aoi Art’s Comment: The well-forged itame hada and subdued jigane are characteristic of Kunitomo’s work. The koshirae, featuring the Omodaka crest in gold on a black lacquered saya, is an exquisite piece, traditionally associated with the Mizuno family. The tanto koshirae, decorated with the Omodaka crest in gold, is a remarkable piece of craftsmanship, making this a highly recommended sword.
