Shape: A robust piece with a wide blade and thick construction.
It features a triple spine and a well-preserved original edge.
The front has twin grooves, while the back has a single groove.
Jigane: Koitame-hada (fine wood grain pattern) well-forged, resulting in beautiful steel.
Hamon: Nie-deki suguha (straight temper line with small crystals), with a slightly deep nioiguchi (bright line) and a small rounded return.
Features: Amata Akitsugu was born in 1927 (Showa 2) in Niigata Prefecture.
He began producing military swords in 1940 (Showa 15) under the guidance of Kurihara Hikosaburo.
After World War II, he returned to Niigata, and in 1954 (Showa 29), he received permission to create cultural property swords.
He won the prestigious Masamune Award three times at the New Master Sword Exhibition and was designated a Living National Treasure in 1997 (Heisei 9).
Known for his self-produced steel made from iron sand using traditional techniques, his works are recognized as masterpieces.
He passed away on June 26, 2013 (Heisei 25).
This tanto is crafted with a beautiful Yamashiro-den style jigane and features a deep nioiguchi.
With a robust blade and construction, it is a highly recommended piece.
