Era: the late Kamakura period around AD1300
Shape: wide and thick O-suriage Mumei blade with deep curvature.
Jigane: Itame hada mixed with Masa, with fine Jinie. Pale Midare-Utsuri appears.
Hamon: Ko-nideki suguha with Ko-ashi and Yo. Boshi is little pointed circle.
Features:
Based on its shape, Jigane and Hamon, this blade is thought to have been made in the late Kamakura period. This work has a calm atmosphere and well shows the characteristics of Aoe school. The polish is also excellent, especially in bringing out the unique Jigane, which is typical of Aoe.

Koshirae: (NBTHK Hozon Tosogu)
Tsuba: val silver ground with high-relief carving of ocean waves and flying birds, inlaid with gold.
Signature: Hatakodo Tomotsune
Fuchikashira: Silver ground with carving of intense splashing waves.
Kojiri: Silver ground with high-relief carving of rough waves.
Saya: Red lacquered saya.
Menuki: Silver ground with high-relief carving of rough waves.
Two seppa: Plain copper ground with solid gold edging.

Aoi Art’s Comment: This is a work from the late Kamakura period, nearly 700 years old, and has been carefully preserved.
The koshirae is believed to be the work of Hatakodo Tomotsune.
It is a well-crafted piece recognized as the 54th Juyo Token.
