We divide swords into four categories: Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku, and Regular Saku based on the quality of craftsmanship.
This sword is ranked as Jyo Saku among unsigned works.
Habaki: Single-layered copper with gold inlay.
Blade Length: 70.7 cm (27.83 in)
Curvature: 2.00 cm (0.79 in)
Mekugi Holes: 2
Width at Base (Motohaba): 3.25 cm (1.28 in)
Width at Tip (Sakihaba): 2.51 cm (0.99 in)
Thickness (Kasane): 0.7 cm (0.28 in)
Sword Weight: 715 g
Era: Late Edo period.
Shape:Wide blade with a thick spine.
Deeply polished down (O-suriage) with bohi (grooves) carved on both sides, extending through the blade.
Jigane (Steel):Ko-itame hada (fine wood grain pattern), well-forged, resulting in a surface almost resembling plain steel.
Hamon (Temper Line):Suguha (straight temper line) with a calm and tight pattern, featuring small ashi (feet).
The boshi (tip) curves gently, returning in a small round shape.

Features:This sword appears to have been polished and modified, likely with the intention of emulating an older blade. It is classified as a Shinshinto piece and is unlikely to be mistaken for a Koto. Nonetheless, its craftsmanship is excellent, making it suitable for iaido practice and as a display piece for appreciation.

Aoi Art's Comment:At first glance, the blade gives an impression of antiquity. However, the plain jigane, the tight suguha hamon with slightly stiff ashi, and the boshi's slightly indented small round tip suggest a younger era.
