Shape:A wide blade with thick kasane, featuring double bohi on both sides.
It has a deep curvature and an elongated kissaki.
The mune is mitsu-mune.
Jigane:Finely forged ko-itame hada, producing a well-forged and beautiful steel grain with ji-nie.
Hamon:A gunome-midare with fine ko-gunome,
showcasing vivid sunagashi and kinsuji activity within the blade.
The boshi undulates and ends in a sharp return.
Features:Kanbayashi Tsunehira (b. 1949, Yamagata Prefecture) apprenticed under Miyairi Yukihira, a Living National Treasure, in 1967.
Through dedicated study, he won numerous awards, including the Bunka-chō Award, Takamatsunomiya Award, and Kunzan Award.
By 1985, at just 36 years old, he became a Mukansa (exempt from appraisal) smith.
His specialty is the Sōshū tradition, particularly blade carvings, which reflect the influence of his master Yukihira.
His works are signed with Hasedo on the nakago, as he established his forge in Hasedo, Yamagata, in 1986.
In 2008, he was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Yamagata Prefecture.
The phrase “Rikikou Ware wo Azamukazu” means “Effort never deceives me”, emphasizing the importance of dedication and hard work.
