Aoi Art’s Comment:
Katana is a rare Sukesada's sword with Zokumyo. During the late Muromachi period, when wars were frequent, Osafune Sukesada made a large number of swords. Of course, it was impossible for one person to make hundreds of swords, and it is thought that there were more than a dozen swordsmiths using the name of Sukesada. Therefore, the quality of Sukesada's works is not consistent, but those with Zokumyo(real name) are of good workmanship, suggesting that they were carefully crafted for high-ranking Samurai.
Wakizashi is made by Tadakuni, a swordsmith from Hizen. The thick and soft hamon is reminiscent of cumulonimbus. During the Edo period, there was the only port for overseas trade in Hizen, and good quality iron from the Netherlands was available there, so Hizen swords are characterized by their uniquely beautiful jigane.
