"Wave and Plovers," depicted together with waves and water, is considered an auspicious pattern symbolizing harmony and family safety. It represents "overcoming life’s turbulent waves together," and is thus associated with a harmonious marriage and household well-being.

Kōrin signed his works as Tōhi Kōrin (with Kao), Kōrin, or Higo-jū Kōrin. He carved wave and plover motifs, as well as floral designs, on yamagane (copper) and brass. He resided in Kumamoto, Higo Province.
