Era: Shinto Period, Chu-Jo Saku, Echizen Province. At our shop, we classify swords based on craftsmanship as Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku, and Regular Saku. This particular piece is ranked as Jyo Saku for a sword by the third generation Echizen Yasutsugu.
Habaki: Shakudo colored.

Era: Early Edo Period, around the Kanbun era.
Shape: A robust, wide-bodied Shinto work with a thick kasane and slightly extended kissaki.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame with a visible grain pattern, likely crafted with imported Nanban steel.
Hamon: Nie-based suguha with a deep nioiguchi, showcasing well-defined ko-ashi activity. The blade also displays sunagashi and kinsuji within the hamon. The boshi has a rounded shape with a deep return.

Features: The third-generation Echizen Yasutsugu, also known as Shirozaemon, inherited the family tradition following the passing of his elder brother, the second-generation Yasutsugu. He split his work between Edo and Echizen. His style closely resembles that of the first two generations. Notably, he passed away in January of the Tempo 3 era. It is rare to find his works signed as "Echizen Yasutsugu," as he typically signed “Yasutsugu Kore wo Saku in Echizen.”

Tsuba: Shakudo with nanako base, shaped into a chrysanthemum flower with gold detailing.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo with Saaya patterns with gold color.
Saya: Black lacquered gloss finish.
Menuki: Shakudo with high-relief carvings of shells and seaweed.

Aoi Art’s Comment: This third-generation Yasutsugu from Echizen created works primarily in a suguha style with a deep nioiguchi, featuring an active midare pattern with prominent ashi and a bold boshi.
