We divide each sword by quality into four levels: Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku, and Regular Saku.
This piece is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among unsigned works (Mumei).
Habaki: Gold foil, single layer.

Blade Length: 71.9 cm (28.31 in)
Curvature: 1.4 cm (0.55 in)
Mekugi Hole: 3
Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.88 cm (1.13 in)
Width at Tip (Sakihaba): 1.67 cm (0.66 in)
Thickness of Rim (Kasane): 0.75 cm (0.3 in)
Sword Weight: 795 grams

Era: Nanbokucho period
Shape: This is an o-suriage (greatly shortened) mumei blade with standard width and thickness, deep curvature, and a well-formed boshi.

Jigane: The ko-itame (small wood grain) structure is well-forged, creating a refined texture with whitish utsuri (reflection) that stands out vividly.

Hamon: Both the boshi and hamon are nearly invisible. The hamon appears as a bright and clear suguha from the base, with active ashi (feet), and displays sunagashi and kinsuji (streaking) activity within the blade.

Features: The Bingo Hokke Ichijo school, distinct from Mihara works of Bingo, includes smiths such as Ichijo, Kaneyasu, Yukiyoshi, and Shige-yasu. Many of their pieces exhibit a whitish utsuri and a slightly adhesive texture. Previously, this blade was attributed to the Tegai school under Tokubetsu Kicho Token classification, but in this appraisal, it has been ascribed to Hokke.

Koshirae:

Tsuba: Round shakudo tsuba with openwork, adorned with a chrysanthemum motif in gold at the upper part.
Fuchikashira: High-relief carving of leaves on shakudo with gold highlights.
Saya (Scabbard): Glossy black lacquered surface with a decorative pattern.
Menuki: High-relief carving of a dragon motif in gold with additional color details.
Kozuka: Shakudo nanako surface with a high-relief bow and arrow motif, finished with gold accents.
Kogatana: Signed “Mondo no Sho Masakiyo.”
Aoi Art’s Comment: This blade from the Nanbokucho period displays a suguha hamon with hints of gunome, accompanied by a notable whitish utsuri. The koshirae is finely crafted, with menuki possibly made of solid gold or adorned with colored details, showcasing excellent craftsmanship.
