Shape: Standard width and thickness, with a deep curvature and an extended tip, presenting an excellent form.
Jigane: A well-forged ko-itame hada, with a beautiful, tight grain.
Hamon: Straight temper line from the base, transitioning into a dynamic wave pattern (notare) with ko-nie, with tama (round shapes) formed between the waves. The boshi is rounded and turns back.

Features: Akama Tsunanobu was an active swordsmith around the Tenpo era, a time when sword orders increased, leading to many highly skilled swordsmiths. As a result, many swords from this period show excellent craftsmanship.

Aoi Art’s Comment: Akama Tsunanobu often created works with a notare-midare hamon. He is well-known in Yonezawa and is said to be a disciple of Tsunaei. His hamon features dynamic waves and choji-ba patterns.

Historical Background: As the country became divided between Imperial loyalists and Shogunate supporters, internal conflicts increased, leading to higher demand for Japanese swords. The swords made during the Tenpo era are generally of high quality, as ironworking techniques had advanced significantly.
