Shape: The tanto has a slightly narrow width and standard thickness, with a healthy curvature, making it a robust piece with a live blade.
Jigane: The steel has a well-forged Ko-Itame Hada (fine wood grain pattern) that impresses upon observation.
Hamon: The temper line is a straight Choji with a deep Nioiguchi, featuring soft and deep Ashi, similar to the steel of Yamashiro, giving a gentle, misty appearance at the edge.

Features: Originally, Mr. Hirokuni is known for his excellent polishing skills, making the Jigane appear outstanding. The soft Choji pattern Hamon is characterized by the presence of Sunagashi (sweeping sand) and Kinsuji (gold streaks), conveying the depth of Nioiguchi to the observer.

Aoi Art’s Comment: Swordsmith Hirokuni, whose real name is Hiroki Junichi was born in 1948 in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and learned the policy of swords from his father. He became a pupil of the Living National Treasure, Sumitani Masamine, and is said to have studied polishing while learning about the sword styles of Yamashiro, Bizen, Bitchu, and Soshu. He has won several awards, including the Director-General of the Agency for Cultural Affairs Award and the Mainichi Newspaper Prize for Excellence, becoming an uninspected swordsmith.
